INGREDIENTS
Skin health starts at the cellular level, and as it is our largest organ, it is so important to utilize wholesome ingredients that support its structure, repair, and hydration. And here at Wholesome, the ingredient list is carefully curated with purposeful intention to only contain natural, organic, and nontoxic ingredients for all skin types.

Grass-Fed Tallow
Tallow is rendered animal fat. It has many beneficial nutrients such as Vitamin A (encourages the production of collagen, elastin, and healthy skin cells as well as strengthening skin tissue, healing acne and slowing skin aging), Vitamin D (contributes to skin cell development, repair, metabolism and immune function), Vitamin K (aids in skin tone, texture, and overall health by soothing skin inflammation and irritation), Vitamin E (repairs and reverses free radical damage by acting as a powerful antioxidant), and many minerals. These nutrients play a vital role in every cellular function in our body. There are cellular growth benefits as well as immune support and antioxidant benefits too. When ingested, tallow contains many healthy fatty acids that help fuel brain function and promote brain health as well as produce hormones that regulate appetite and mood. Grass-fed tallow contains 4x as much Vitamin E as grain-fed tallow. Our skin cell membranes are composed mostly of fatty acids with at least 50% being saturated fats, and tallow is also made up of around 50% saturated fats. Because of the similar makeup, tallow is incredibly compatible with our cell biology and is very easily absorbed by our skin.

Goat's Milk/Raw Milk
Goat's milk as well as raw cow dairy contains fatty acids and cholesterol that help repair the skin barrier due to being the main ingredients of our skin membrane as well as probiotics to encourage growth of normal skin flora. It contains caprylic acid which acts as a gentile cleanser allowing for a gentle removal of dirt from the skin, and due to it’s high cholesterol and fatty acid levels, goat’s milk helps your skin’s lipid barrier slow moisture loss and thus replenish the skin’s moisture. Goat’s milk also contains exfoliants such as Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) that decrease any hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and aging spots. It also contains probiotics such as Lactobacillus, which produces lactic acid which as anti-inflammatory effects.

Olive Oil
Olive oil contains squalene oil and Vitamin E, both of which aid in moisture retention and absorption. It is also rich in antioxidants, preventing skin aging. Olive oil contains triterpenes which have anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties.

Coconut Oil
Coconut Oil is rich in fats acting as a sealant to lock in moisture and hydrate the skin. It is also full of vitamins (C, E, B1, B3, and B5). Vitamin C reduces hyperpigmentation and inflammation. Vitamin E is a crucial antioxidant that protects against environmental pollutants and sun exposure. Vitamin B1 and B5 can calm red, irritated and dry skin. Vitamin B2 helps boost skin tone. Coconut oil is also rich in minerals such as copper, which helps develop elastin, the fibers that support skin structure, and iron and magnesium and manganese and selenium – all of which help rejuvenate the skin by aiding cell regeneration and repair. Vitamin C, copper and manganese all support collagen production, making skin more elastic and youthful. Coconut oil’s medium-chain triglycerides contain the following acids that have anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties: lauric acid, decanoic acid, caprylic acid, and caproic acid.

Shea Butter
Shea Butter acts as an emollient that softens and hydrates skin. It contains several types of fatty acids- including linoleic, oleic, palmitic, and stearic acids- that improve the skin’s natural barrier. Shea butter also contains triterpene cinnamates and acetates that have anti-inflammatory effects and therefore can heal skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. It contains omega-3 fatty acids that have skin-healing properties against scars. It also contains antioxidants such as Vitamin A and E which have anti-aging properties.

Cocoa Butter
Cocoa butter contains natural plant compounds called phytochemicals that can improve blood flow to the skin and slow aging by protecting against UV damage. It is also rich in antioxidants and high in fatty acids which help hydrate the skin.

Castor Oil
Castor Oil contains antioxidants that decrease skin-aging as well as anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory ingredients that can help prevent acne. Castor oil also has a low comedogenic score and thus will not clog skin pores. It has humectant properties that help it draw moisture from the air into the skin, increasing the hydration and youthfulness of skin.

Beeswax
Yellow beeswax acts as a protective barrier on the skin, protecting it from environmental irritants and harsh weather. It is non-comedogenic (non-pore blocking), and thus allows the skin to breathe freely. It enhances skin elasticity and contains several antioxidants and antimicrobial ingredients.

Oats
Oats contain beta-glucan (a substance that absorbs water), phenols (antioxidants), saponins (cleanser properties), and oils that gently exfoliate and cleanse the skin. It also boots collagen productions.

Raw Honey
Raw honey is a powerhouse of nutrients and enzymes with many benefits. It is an immune-modulatory agent that downregulates inflammatory transcription factors and suppresses the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines as well as stimulate the production of inflammatory mediators. This has great anti-acne benefits. It also has antimicrobial properties that promote healing and cellular regeneration. It is a natural humectant and moisturizer that draws surrounding water in the environment into the skin. It contains many amino acids, antioxidants (phenolic acids, flavonoids), vitamins (ascorbic acid, pantothenic acid, niacin, riboflavin) and minerals (calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, zinc) that are extremely beneficial to the skin.

Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal removes impurities and cleanses excess oil on the skin by providing a deep cleansing. Because charcoal provides such a deep cleanse, it decreases the occurrence of blackheads and acne. It is a wonderful skin exfoliant by gently removing the deepest debris from pores while absorbing tiny molecules that most other exfoliating scrubs leave behind. Because of this charcoal relieves many skin impurities and detoxifies the skin.

Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic Acid is a water-based ingredient that pulls water deep into the skin pores and is therefore called a humectant. Because of this, it draws moisture from the air and its surroundings into the skin. It is best to apply on wet skin in humid environments such as a steamed shower or bathroom. It is found naturally between our skin cells acting as a water reservoir for the skin cell, and in the aging process, we lose hyaluronic acid and thus the ability to hold water in our skin. It helps make our skin feel hydrated and youthful.

Clays
FRENCH ROSE CLAY is a combination of red and white clays and helps improve the elasticity of the skin while providing a gentile cleanse as well. It removes dead skin cells and provides a softening effect on the skin.
FRENCY GREEN CLAY is well known for its powerful healing action through its deep detoxification and purification properties. It removes impurities and debris from the skin that can clog pores and contribute to acne and blemishes.
KAOLIN CLAY absorbs sebum (regulating oil control) and prevents pore clogging by drawing out impurities and toxins from the pores. It clears the skin of excess oil, dirt, and pollution without causing any redness or irritation.
MOROCCAN RED CLAY draws excess oils from the skin as well as stimulates circulation to the skin. It aids in detoxifying and exfoliating the skin through a deep cleanse. It regenerates skin texture and promotes the renewal of skin cells.
BENTONITE CLAY absorbs dirt, oil, and excess sebum thus providing anti-inflammatory properties. The clay is highly absorptive, drawing bad things out of the skin and thus pulling impurities out of the skin cells allowing for oxygen to move in and make skin pores healthy. With its cleanse, it provides a gentile exfoliate that helps combat acne, blackheads, and whiteheads that are typically due to oil buildup.

Lye
Lye is necessary to chemically turn oils and fats into soap through a process called saponification; however, after the curing process of the soap, no lye is left in the final product. You cannot have soap without lye.

Salts
EPSOM SALTS: relieve joint and muscle pain and contains many minerals beneficial for the skin, provides exfoliation
PINK SALTS: have anti-inflammatory properties, numerous minerals, calms skin irritations, helps the skin retain moisture, and can decrease aging/breakouts, provides exfoliation

Coffee
Coffe has many anti-aging benefits due to its antioxidants (Phenolic, Tocopherols) and anti-inflammatory (Caffeine, Chlorogenic acids) properties. Coffee also has Linoleic acid which supports the integrity of the skin's permeability membrane providing wound healing benefits. The caffeine aids blood microcirculation and tightens/tones the skin. The coffee grounds also provide excellent exfoliation.

Cinnamon
Cinnamon has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties as well as tones the skin and provides a soothing relief to dry skin.

Grapefruit
Grapefruit contains Vitamin A&C, controls oil buildup, tightens pores, prevents breakouts, and is great for oily acne-prone skin.

Turmeric
Turmeric has many incredible anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties as well as unclogging pores.
